Before the session
Choose one clear learning outcome. Check accessibility needs, prepare examples that reflect the learners’ context and test any digital materials. Decide which worksheet or checklist will support the session.
Suggested 60-minute session
0–10 minutes: Welcome, outcome and opening question.
10–25 minutes: Short explanation with practical examples.
25–42 minutes: Individual or group resource activity.
42–52 minutes: Share findings and compare approaches.
52–60 minutes: Quiz, personal action and closing reflection.
Useful facilitation questions
What do you already notice in your community or workplace? Who benefits and who may be affected? What evidence would help us decide? What is the smallest realistic action? How will we know whether it worked?
Inclusive learning
Use plain language, explain unfamiliar terms, read key instructions aloud, allow individual thinking time before discussion and offer both written and spoken ways to participate. Avoid assuming that every learner has the same resources or control over household decisions.
Assessment and feedback
Use the short quizzes as formative checks, not high-stakes tests. Review incorrect answers together, ask learners to explain their reasoning and end with one realistic personal or project action. Invite brief feedback on what was clear and what needs more support.
Activity: local sustainability challenge
Small groups identify one local challenge, map who is affected, select relevant SDGs and propose a small action. Each group presents the expected benefit, possible unintended effects and one indicator of progress.

A method for evaluating environmental impacts across a product’s life, from raw materials to end of use.
Net zero
Deeply reducing greenhouse-gas emissions and balancing only the small residual amount with removals.
Renewable energy
Energy from naturally replenished sources such as sunlight, wind, water and geothermal heat.
Resilience
The ability of people, communities or systems to prepare for, respond to and recover from disruption.
Resource efficiency
Creating useful value while using fewer materials, less energy and less water.
Social enterprise
An organisation that uses business activity to pursue a social or environmental purpose.
Stakeholder
A person or group that affects, is affected by or has an interest in a decision or project.
